Women’s suffrage:
1- In 18th Century, women became strongly politically active in united kingdom.
2- In 1907, the National Union of Women’s Suffrage
Societies organized it’s first large procession.
3-In 1918, with WWI over, Parliament agreed to enfranchise women who were over the age of 30. It was not until 1928 that women were granted the right to vote on the same terms as men.
Melodrama:
1-
Melodrama comes from “music drama” where music was used to increase emotions or signify characters.
2-
Some characteristics of melodrama include a simplified moral universe where good and evil are embodied in stock characters.
3-
Traditional melodrama is usually in
episodic form where the villain poses a threat and the hero or heroine escapes with a happy
ending.
Realism:
1-
Realism is the representation in art or literature of objects, actions or social conditions.
2- They actually are in our own world, without idealization or presentation in abstract form.
3- It is easy to forget that this style is only a century and a half old.
Naturalism :
1- Naturalism is an artistic movement advocating realistic description: in art or literature, a
movement or school advocating factual or realistic description of life, including its less
pleasant aspects.
2- There is a special stress on the importance of heredity and environment in
determining character.
3- They are anti-Romantic in their rejection of the self-defining hero who
transcends his background.
